2018 has been a big year. Both as a parent and as a business owner.
The year started with having a 6 week old baby boy. I was a new mum who had no idea what she was doing with this adorable little bundle. Thankfully, as the year has gone on I've started to work out how to be a mum to my now 1 year old. Now if we could get him to sleep through the night then that would be great.
Photography by Kate had been on hold for a little bit as Sam took all my time and energy for the first 6 months of the year. When he started to sleep a bit better and not be up all hours of the night, I had the energy to start thinking about business again.
I'd been trying to work on my new website for over a year but finally decided to jump in and finally get my website done and out there. It took a lot of work but in September I launched the new site. There were a week of specials and new products.
I really appreciated all your support during the launch and the whole time I've been in business.
It's been a challenge learning about running a business while being a mum. I have this passion for my business but my family comes first. I'm having to learn how to balance it all. It is still something that I struggle with. I haven't found many nature photographers out there who are mums too so get the feeling it might not be as common as a I'd like.
The hardest thing has been that Sam has never been a good sleeper and so for a long time he wanted mum to help him go to sleep. This meant that I couldn't go do sunset shoots and was limited with my time away from Sam. Of course he came first and I love being his mum but photography is something that I've always loved and is something that I've discovered I need to do. Photography is my way of relaxing and losing myself in something for a while. When I found I didn't have the time to do it, I realised just how much I missed it.
I want 2019 to be a big year for Photography by Kate. I feel like I say that every year and it doesn't happen. I also feel like maybe this year will be different. My mind set is different so that can make a world of difference.
I hope that 2019 is a wonderful year for you. What are your plans for 2019?
