There is something about a crisis that brings clarity. I've recently been thinking about what I want my business to be. I thought a lot about what I want to achieve and what Photography by Kate brings.
One thing that stood out was that I want to bring peace into people's lives. I want people to look at my photographs and feel at ease, at peace. I want to take people out of their situation, whatever it may be, and take them to a place where they are relaxed.
We are currently in a situation that the modern world hasn't seen. We took for granted the ability to go outside and to travel anywhere we can. We are now limited to our homes and necessary places. Photography now more than ever is important in taking you places.
The places I've photographed have brought me into creation and a place away from all distractions. There is no one there. It's just me and my camera. All you hear is nature. Sometimes it's birds. Sometimes it's the ocean. Sometimes it's just the wind. It's this feeling that I want people to have when they look at my photographs.
Now more than ever it's something that I need too. It's a tough time to be pregnant and the scary thing is that in 3 months when I'm due, not much might have changed. We're in this for the long haul. My anxiety flares and I long to be back in that place of peace.
One of my favourite verses is Philippians 4:6-7: "6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." I really hope that my photography can give you a glimpse of that peace.
